From staff reports
For the past five months, shippers have complained about the poor rail service in getting goods like fertilizer, food, beverage and coal where they need to be using train cars. In response, the Surface Transportation Board has scheduled a public hearing and has summoned the NSF Railway Company, CSX Transportation, Inc., Norfolk Southern Railway Company and Union Pacific Railroad Company. The hearing is to take place in Washington, DC with management from each entity. It is a two-day hearing taking place today and tomorrow. The hearing will be available for viewing on the STB website.
Shippers cite lack of movements of train cars not running on schedule and sitting full at elevators. In addition, empty train cars are not being loaded in a timely manner- all this resulting in a lack of product for consumers. Grain is also being turned away at elevators because the elevator cannot afford to store it.
