The American Farm Bureau Federation is weighing in on a new Waters of the U.S. Rule. According to AFBF, the Biden administration claims that the rule would not affect small businesses, however, the Small Business Administration disagrees. AFBF President Zippy Duvall offered comments to the Environmental Protection Agency recently expressing his concern regarding comments from the SBA that agree with those in the agriculture industry that say the proposed rule would negatively affect rural landowners and agriculture and would be a prime example of government overreach. “We urge EPA to listen to their colleagues at the Small Business Administration and the people who will be directly affected; suspend your plans to write a new WOTUS rule,” Duvall said in a statement. AFBF, other organizations and lawmakers have stated recently that it also is important for WOTUS to have clear and easy-to-understand definitions of what a waterway of the United States is.
